Brexit: A New Era for the United Kingdom
Brexit: The Decision
On June 23, 2016, the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union (EU), a decision that shocked many and set the country on a path towards an uncertain future. The decision was made after a hard-fought campaign that pitted those who wanted to leave the EU (known as "Brexiteers") against those who wanted to remain (known as "Remainers").
The Reasons for Brexit
There were a number of reasons why people voted to leave the EU, including:
- Concerns about immigration: Many people felt that the UK had lost control of its borders and that the EU was allowing too many people to enter the country.
- Concerns about sovereignty: Some people felt that the UK was no longer able to make its own laws and that the EU had too much power.
- Concerns about the economy: Some people felt that the EU was holding back the UK economy and that it would be better off outside of the bloc.
