Inter Milan's Title March Stalled by Napoli Draw

Hard-fought 1-1 result keeps Serie A title race wide open

Here's how the match unfolded

Inter Milan's quest for a 20th Serie A title hit a roadblock on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by reigning champions Napoli at the San Siro. The result leaves Inter just one point ahead of Napoli at the top of the table, with the title race still very much in the balance.

Inter started the match brightly and took the lead in the 17th minute through Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine striker latched onto a through ball from Nicolo Barella and fired past Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret. However, Napoli responded well and equalized in the 35th minute through Dries Mertens. The Belgian winger pounced on a loose ball in the Inter penalty area and slotted home from close range.

Both teams had chances to win the match in the second half, but neither side could find a way through. Inter came closest to scoring when Romelu Lukaku hit the post in the 70th minute. In the end, a draw was probably a fair result, and it leaves the Serie A title race wide open with just seven games remaining.
