MSFT 50 XBOX to Appear in Device List
The Windows 10 April 2018 Update brings several improvements to the DHCP client, including a new feature that will cause some devices to appear as MSFT 50 XBOX in the device list.
Updated Client Vendor Name
In addition, the traditional Client Vendor Name has been updated for some Windows-based devices. This value used to be simply MSFT 50. Some devices will now show up as MSFT 50 XBOX.
DHCP Discover-Offer Process
The process of assigning IP addresses to DHCP clients has also been updated. In the new process, the client sends a DHCP Discover message, and the server responds with a DHCP Offer message. The client then sends a DHCP Request message to accept the offer and obtain an IP address.
Impact on Network Management
These changes may have an impact on network management. For example, network administrators may need to update their DHCP servers to support the new DHCP client features. Additionally, they may need to update their network monitoring tools to recognize the new device type.
