WEB Scooter and Wild Thang Claim Top Honors

PETALUMA, Calif. (AP) — A 7-year-old hairless Chinese Crested dog named Scooter has been crowned the winner of the 2023 World's Ugliest Dog Contest in California. Rescued as a puppy, Scooter stole the hearts of judges with his unique appearance and charming personality. In second place was Wild Thang, a Pekingese with a distinctive tongue and protruding eyes.

Despite their unconventional looks, both Scooter and Wild Thang are beloved by their owners. Christy Salters, Scooter's owner, said her dog's "ugliness" is part of what makes him so special. "He's the most loving, loyal dog you'll ever meet," she said.

The World's Ugliest Dog Contest is an annual event that celebrates the beauty of animals that may not fit the traditional standards of canine aesthetics. This year's contest featured a wide range of peculiar pooches, all vying for the coveted title. Scooter's victory is a testament to the acceptance and appreciation of unique characteristics, both in humans and animals.
